About this release
About this release Michael Minsky, Songs of a Don Cossack
One of the greatest exponents of Ukrainian songs was the baritone Michael Minsky. Born in 1918, growing up in Stalin's Russia, he served in the Red Army in the Second World War. He stayed in the West after the war, and was one of the leading soloist in the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus.
Minsky also collected and catalogued Ukranian and Russian traditional songs, and his anthology is a major source for those interested in studying this remarkable music.
