The famous and nearly legendary recording of the piano works of Federico Mompou, played by the composer himself.
Federico Mompou stands as a composer in the tradition of the national Spanish School of Granados, Albeniz and Falla, though his style is highly individual, more imaginative, contemplative, more spiritual and "simple" in a positive sense. One might call him the "Spanish Satie" but then without the excentrities and irony of the French composer.
Mompou the pianist is a master in his own works, they sound as created on the spot, with great freedom and quasi improvisatory.
- A definitive performance of works which are getting increasingly well-known: a must!
- Excellent linernotes.
